CAP Children’s Program Teams visit schools, libraries, residential facilities, colleges, and community support programs where children and young adults can interact with our therapy dogs. Visits help to ease stress in the lives of the children and youth we visit. The children take comfort in the acceptance and love that our CAP therapy dogs provide. Our dogs love the attention and belly rubs that the kids supply.
CAP’s “Tales to Tails” Program is one in which children and youth read stories to our nonjudgmental and ever-attentive therapy dogs. Click here to see a Lower Cape TV spot showcasing a recent Tales to Tail event at the Brewster Ladies’ Library.
All CAP rules of visitation apply to Children’s Program visits. In addition, the dogs must be comfortable, engaged, and remain quiet while sharing a space with a child or a group of children. Dogs need to be non-reactive to the sometimes noisy and active environments of Children’s Program visits. Handlers must be vigilant to ensure that the visit is safe and enjoyable for their dog and the children.
