CAP Children and Adult Specialty Visits Teams visit schools, libraries, residential facilities, hospitals, colleges, and community support programs where children, youth, and adults can interact with our therapy dogs. Visits help to ease stress in the lives of the participants who take comfort in the acceptance and love that our CAP therapy dogs provide. Our dogs thrive on the attention and belly rubs that those we visit supply.
CAP’s “Tales to Tails” Program is one in which children and youth read stories to our nonjudgmental and ever-attentive therapy dogs. Click here to see a Lower Cape TV spot showcasing a recent Tales to Tails event at the Brewster Ladies’ Library.

All CAP rules of visitation apply to Children and Adult Specialty Visits. In addition, dogs must be comfortable, engaged, and remain calm while sharing a space with a group of children, youth or adults. Dogs also need to be non-reactive to noisy, active settings. Handlers must be vigilant and ensure that the environment is safe and enjoyable for their dog and all who are present during visits.
Specialty visits may be one-time occurrences or those that are scheduled monthly. Children and Adult Specialty Visits may also take place at community events, such as charity walks or group celebrations. Certified CAP teams with at least six successful visits to an adult facility can apply to be a part of the Children and Adult Specialty Visits Program.
