COMPANION ANIMAL PROGRAM SOCIAL EVENTS

PICNIC

Each year there is a picnic for all Therapy Teams -handlers and animals. This event includes all sorts of games for the animals including relay races, doggy square dancing, musical mats and other funny and fun exercises for everyone involved. Just to keep things interesting there is always a surprise event - each year - sometimes costumes, sometimes an unexpected competition.

HOLIDAY PARTY

Every December there is a Holiday Party for members and their pet partners - a potluck meal with entertainment and presentation of special awards. We also have a white elephant sale, doggie gift exchange, pictures with your pet and, most fun of all, a chance to socialize with other pets and partners. In recent years as many as 50-75 people attend. It gets everyone into the holiday spirit and is held at the Barnstable Senior Center.

CHATHAM FOURTH OF JULY PARADE

Each year the town of Chatham has an old fashioned small town parade complete with marching bands and floats and lots of walking groups, of which CAP is one. Our banner leads the way and many members and their animals participate. Since the parade has a different theme each year, the organizers try to make signs for young people to carry showing CAP's connection to Cape Cod's beauty and vision. This is a wonderful chance for both humans and animals to be seen by thousands of people.

COMMUNITY EVENTS

CAP is pleased to have the opportunity to be present at a number of upcoming events. These community events, often focused on pets, gives CAP the chance to spread the word about "therapy through pet visits". Some of the events we will be present at this year are:

• May 20, 2012 (E) Bow Wow Bash FIrst Encounter Beach - Eastham, 12-2 pm

• May 29, 2012 (D) Dog Reading Truro Library - Truro, 11:30am-1pm

• June 2012

• July 4, 2012 (E) Chatham 4th of July Parade - we are looking for 4 volunteers to research what work is needed to participate in this parade

• September 2012 (E) MSPCA Walk for the Animals,
