The mission of the Companion Animal Program of Cape Cod is to enhance
the quality of life of our older and disabled population. CAP provides
the enjoyment of trained and certified companion animals and individuals.
Pets and Therapy Teams are expertly prepared to meet safety standards
of behavior and excellence in the field of pet therapy.
OF ANIMAL ASSISTED ACTIVITIES
Visits performed on a regular basis affect beneficial results. Therapeutic
and life enhancing rewards result when volunteer Therapy Teams
interact with those confined in an institutional setting. Interaction
encourages communication, reduces feelings of isolation, and gives the
residents of these facilities a sense of importance because someone took
the time to visit.
Before pets are welcomed into a formalized program there must be an acceptable
standard of behavior to ensure client safety. Companion Animal Program
Therapy Teams are first screened for appropriate physical well being
and behavioral stability.
